After the discovery of gold in Montana in 1862 things got even worse for the shoshones because there were more and more white settlers going throught there land killing all the food and grass finding food was hard enough when the mormons came into utah now it was almost impossible to find it. And if this was not enough for them to deal with there were also unprovoked murders of the shoshones indians. these things were the start of what was to come that would kill a lot of shoshone indians the bear river massacre. The shoshone also did things that helped to bring this bloody event into play the chiefs of the shoshone did a few things that helped with this.
